About Me
For as long as I can remember I have been in love with the stage. At age 5 I played a fairy in a performance of Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' and from that moment I was hooked. I continued acting throughout my childhood, but it was when I started have singing and guitar lessons in my teens that I knew my heart belonged to music. I practiced with a few bands but got my first real taste of music performance doing a backing vocal session for 'Lady Morphia's E.P. 'Pangaea', which subsequently received a 3 ½ out of 5 review rating in 'Metal Hammer' magazine and sold in alternative shops across much of Germany. In 1999 I recorded with my first full band 'Livid' for the Bishop's Stortford High School's annual band CD. I have been addicted to music performance ever since! Since then I have recorded in various projects and performed live with several bands, including backing vocals for 'Fruit Tree', supporting 'Napalm Death' at the Square in Harlow and lead vocals in 'Skelliga' and 'Foxtrot Uniform'. I was with Skelliga for over 3 years, during which time we recorded 3 E.P.s and toured across England, playing many gigs and festivals. We were even invited to play Glastonbury Festival but unfortunately split up before it happened. I wrote most of the lyrics for this band and was also responsible for much of the publicity material, including the band biography, flyer/poster design and assisting with our original website design.
Music-wise, my interests are many and varied. I am able to perform styles as diverse as Folk, Rock, Punk, Heavy Metal (in various permutations), Goth, Rap, Pop and Dance/Trance. I'm happy to try anything else thrown at me! The bands I have been in before have been more along the lines of Folk/Punk/Metal combinations, but my dream is to be in female-fronted, Heavy Metal-meets-Opera-style band similar to Nightwish or Within Temptation. My vocal range is a comfortable two octaves, with a potential for a stretch to another ½ – 1 octave with more practice and possibly a few more lessons. I cannot read music but have a very good ear and can generally pick up a song very quickly. I write lyrics and vocal melodies/harmonies, but not full songs and I can do anything from your classic love song through protest and socially conscious to rage, hate and pain! I am happy working within any framework – whether singing something already written for me, or writing something appropriate to the piece. I also play some guitar, bass and dulcimer.
Other Interests
I have an HND qualification in Popular Music, which has given me wide experience in music performance, management, event organisation and front-of-house. I love reading, writing, travelling, and going to festivals, clubs and gigs. I have performed in many plays, re-enactments and traditional Mummer's plays and have busked at craft fairs. I have also modelled for Club L'Amour: www.eros-london.com/articles/2002-12-17/amour/ and Vlad Quigley: www.vladquigley.com/. I am willing to go anywhere for the right band; my husband and I both work contract jobs so would find it easy to move within a short time-frame if necessary. I also enjoy driving, swimming, cycling, roller skating, walking and hanging out with friends. I live on an English narrowboat on the river Cam in Cambridge and have navigated it around the inland waterways of much of South-East Britain.
