Hectic Weekend...
Mar. 12th, 2002 05:34 pmWhich actually started on Thursday when I went to London to get Lucy's 21st birthday pressie. I knew exactly what I wanted and where to get it, so zipped over to Camden and was done and in the Dev with a bubblegum breezer in front of me within an hour. Had arranged to meet GlenSC at 5:30 so sat around for a while in the Dev then toddled off to get food, which I ate by the Lock. Got hassled by a couple of boys who were skint and hungry but had a mainly peaceful half-hour watching the sun on the water and listening to the water as it fell through the lock gates. Walked back to the Dev, consumed more alchyhol, got a call from Hanna as GlenSC walked in and made arrangements to meet in the Turtle. GlenSC and I got another drink in then headed down.
We were there obscenely early, but got to see everyone come in and talked to loads of people, including Incy, Clive, Scary Phil, Hanna and Tom2. Much more alcohol was consumed, so everything is a little hazy. I know I was too tired and drunk to bother going home, so went back to GlenSCs place and stayed up talking all night instead!
Friday consisted of sleep, music and great percussion sounds from GlenSCs didj. Well, at least I got _some_ music stuff done, much more productive than college. Actually, it was a really lovely day...
Got home that night planning to have an early night, but stayed up spodding and had a shower instead. I had to get up really early the next morning however as I had to be in Ipswich for a Greenpeace Skillshare meeting. It was a great success, got to meet people from this area who are also activists, and actually start planning stuff to do. Got to spray paint with stencils (scarily addictive!) and talk with other people about various methods of getting the ideas we were focussing on across. So if anyone's interested in buying electricity from renewable sources for no extra cost, get in touch with NPower and ask about 'Juice'!
Getting home was a nightmare, due to the copious gales blowing branches onto the track. Had to run home, get changed, pick up pressies and run back out again to get down to Stortford for my best friend's (1st) 21st birthday do. Getting to Stortford was also a nightmare and I didn't get there until gone 9, but it was a fantastic night none-the-less. Luce looked radient, we all got very drunk and silly, and she loved her pressies! (chinese dress from Camden, a pair of leather lace-up jeans I can't get over my fat bum anymore ;-) and a black and pink 'Glastonbury' dress I got her for Christmas and hadn't given her yet...) Went home with Stef that night and stayed on the island, made love to the cats lots and got scolded for not having been home for ages.
Spent the next day enjoying 'river time' and visiting Chas to help him pack the car for rehearsal. It started raining but I was insistant that I get a lift to Cambridge on the bike instead of the car...
_Bad_ move!!
I nearly died!!
130 mph down the M11 on the back of a CBR1000, wearing Stef's spare helmet (far too big!) and a pair of sheepskin mittens cos both of us forgot decent gloves. By the time we got to Cambridge I was a jellied wreck of fear, with no control over any of my muscles! We parked at the KSR and I couldn't even lift my glass of cider because my arms were suffering from muscle fatigue! My legs hurt from gripping the bike, my arms had been as tight as humanely possible around Stef's waist, and I still felt as if I was going to be blown off!
Anyway, I got a lift in the car to the rehearsal studio! Rehearsal was good, we recorded two songs with ambient mikes, so we now have something approaching a demo, its a bit rough but good enough for Strawberry Fair anyway...
Stef stayed over on Sunday (like I'd thought he'd do anything else!) so we sat up drinking for a few hours afterwards, discussing the fact we now have a name! Yep, we decided on a name, which no-one else objected to! So we are...
*Drum Roll*
SKELLIG.
Well, we liked it... :-P
College on Monday, then off to HMV to see Mr Billy Bragg before the gig at the Corn Exchange. We got there a little late so had to watch him perform from outside, then got let in for the signing. I got a copy of his new album on vinyl signed!! :-)
Pub before the gig to meet up with the rest of Skellig, then on to heckling the poor man and his band! (Well, we wre drunk...!) Funny thing is, all the people there were middle aged, middle class boring drudges who just stood there, even looking at us strangely when we danced! Only a few people at the back and one person at the front seemed to be enjoying it as much as us, everyone just stood there...
OK, it wasn't actually as good as it should have been, the best bits were when Billy was talking to us and when he stood on stage and did stuff on his own. His 'Blokes' were OK, but not much more than boring session musicians, even Sir Whassisname from the Small faces... Actually, none of Billy's new songs are that good, which is realy sad. I think he's getting old, he's even writing about babies! He did ask us all to buy his single for the Jubilee, try to get it into the charts, which I think everyone should do, it'll be really really funny to have 'Half English' at number one in Jubilee week! (tee hee! ;-) )
that's pretty much it really, met jx today, she thought I was someone else, bt has moved up to Cambridge and may be coming to my do on Saturday (details to follow...) She seems nice, and is a great contact to have, so hopefully we have a new CamGoth! (Whatever that is! ;-) )
Oh yeah, I passed the part of my course that I wrote the Punk essay for, with what would have been a really high mark if I'd had a more detailed Bibliography (?!) so I may see if I can get that sorted out. I passed anyway, but its the difference between a 2:2 and a 2:1...
