Computer has died the death, again... Honestly, I still haven't even finished paying the bloody thing off (yes, I am a non-geek, sue me...) and its already falling to pieces. I swear it was engineered to do so... Anyway, looks like (apparently) a new motherboard and/or CPU, which at least gives me the chance to upgrade it...
In the shop where I got her fixed up just before she went missing sits my 1997 Dawes Sterling 21 speed ladies' frame drop-handled tourer. A little dented and scratched where they apparently chiselled apart the chain, and missing her shiny silver sticker where the security coding is, but nevertheless still in one piece and very much still mine. The shop are looking her over to make sure she's all OK, and welding the struts on the rear mudguard back (again). Then I can lower the seat back to my level (bloody cheeky bastard put it right up) and go out on a _very_ long ride to celebrate her homecoming. I will also be buying another D lock to replace the one I was using a few months ago (the locking mechanism went on it...)
I am an _EXTREMELY_ lucky young lady, and also a very grateful one. The guy who found it said it had been abandoned in the gravel car-park area in front of his house, next to a similarly abandoned car. It would appear that the car had been stolen and left there, the police had come and secured the car. The thieves had then apparently returned to the car (by way of my bike) found it unstealable, and decided to leave my bike there as well. I'm surprised she wasn't kept for evidence/fingerprinting etc, but the police seemed almost in a hurry to give her back to me. Oh well, my gain I guess...
I'm considering getting some tape (like the stuff on the handlebars) to wrap around the scarred area on the frame, partly to protect the underlying metal (which isn't showing, but is more exposed than it was before) partly to hide it from my own eyes (it feels like a violation of myself every time I look at them) and also to hide the Dawes mark, making her look a bit less desireable. I'm also considering putting a big poster reading FUCK YOU in my front window above where I park her...
Anyone recommend me a good red wine somewhere in the £15-20 mark that I can get as a thank-you gift for the guy who found her...?
