OK, lots of things here. First of all, big huge massive thanx and *Hugs* and stuff due to Dominic and his missus for putting me up over the weekend in gorgeous lovely sunny Brighton. The weekend consisted of (variously):
Interesting and nostalgic train journeys - I'd forgotten just how much fun it was taking a train somewhere you're only vaguely familiar with...
Cambridge- and Camden-On-Sea - People, if you only go one place this year, visit Brighton and pay especial attention to North Laine and the surrounding area. Its a true riot of colour, sound and all that is interesting. :-)
Not Getting Pierced (tm) - All the main places I've visited over the past few years have piercings to their name (Cardiff - tongue, Dublin - nipple etc.) I was planning on getting a madonna piercing while in Brighton, but didn't get around to it on the Saturday, and we got out of the house to late to fit it in on the Sunday. Not too much of a problem, since Stef will be re-dying my hair to its natural colour (ie, the colours I'm most happy with it being) I think I should introduce work slowly to the concept of Clark Kent still very much being Superman and wearing the real me on my sleeve...
All-you-can-eat Indian - Very tiny, very wonderful restaurant serving an all-you-can-eat Indian _vegetarian_ buffet of high calibre for the price of a Macdonald's meal. Go t this place, keep it open, it must never be allowed to close!
Poi on the beach - After the gig we went to on Saturday (during which we spent most of the time in the beer garden unwrapping wire spiral binding from a pad of paper and tying it back around wire-wool-wrapped poi) we headed down to the beach, stole some wood from a timber yard, built a fire and watched Dom doing pretty things with fire chains. The wire wool didn't quite spark as hoped, but the general consensus was that less is definitely more here, and there was no need for three layers of the stuff. Watched the moon on the water, asked and answered the five-questions meme and wondered just which element I identify with the most at the moment (probably either water - the sea - or air - my element, the rushing winds of Autumn.)
Attic bedrooms - I was ensconced up in the attic Saturday night, and the angle of the ceiling combined with the skylights to give a general feeling of being on a well-moored boat. Lay awake watching the stars/clouds for a bit, went to sleep, got woken up slowly but surely by the dawn. Dom's mum introduced herself, I embarrassed myself in front of his dad (something in the manner of Irish people puts me off my guard for some reason...) and made brekkie/ate it/read for a while before lazy-arse and girlie finally got out of bed! ;-P
Dragonlance books - I have my very own Dragonlance library down in Brighton, from which I am allowed to take 3 books at any one time. Needless to say this puts me in little Alix heaven as far as reading material goes - I'd forgotten just how much I'd missed everyone on Krynn...
Trying on corsets - namely, one tiny (18") white pinstripe waspie and one classic (heart) shape Vollers corset which is a style I've wanted for ages but never been able to find in my size/afford it/decide on the right colour... Ms. Dathedi - I now know what shape, size and style corset I want, so as and when you have time/knowledge/patience I'd like to get you to make it for me please. :-) Dom seemed particularly impressed by the Vollers one, and I had a great time showing my legs off in the shop as I was wearing a bikini and so could get away with no skirt...
Swimming in the sea - Those who know the paranoia I have had for water for a very long time will be surprised to hear that I'm almost completely cured finally! Thus, I stripped off to afore-mentioned bikini and made friends with the big blue, getting dried off afterwards by Dom and Jo - by means of burying me in pebbles!
Goodbyes at the station - well... Maybe, but not that close next time, please? *Hugs*.
The best thing I think about the weekend was both the liberation/personal space, and the fact that it seems to have made things a little easier between us. The past few days have certainly been very good in comparison to the last few months, and I'm starting to have some hope that things can continue well now that we've both had some appreciation of space and time to be ourselves/see friends etc. I've also realised just how much travelling I want to do, so I'll just resurrect/put forward some ideas...
Glen, how about that trip to Cornwall? I doubt a full week, but maybe a long weekend would be feasable. Now, they changed the rules at work recently, such that hiring a car would probably be the most expensive option available - how about we take a train down? Or - I have plans to get hold of a cheap and reliable car via Shauny's mechanic friends, if I manage this I can drive down and we can share petrol. Either way, camping is still possible if you'd like to do this, if not, we'll have to look at other options, with the 'family' not being a good one. Oh, and will you be about for the Sluts Meet Thursday? I understand totally if not, but it would be nice to see you. If you need a break you know you're very much welcome to come up here for the weekend any time. :-)
Luce - Lisa at work has given me £100 holiday voucher that she got given by Boots. Its only for a package-type deal thingy, but I'm really suffering from a need to get away to some hot resort and spend a week/few days swimming in proper blue water and making my legs TAN DAMNITT!! Wanna go abroad sometime soon? I'll obviously have to sort out my passport, but its just a case of finding someone to sign my photos etc. since I've sorted all the rest of the paperwork.
Zotz - Mind if Erik and I come up to Edinburgh for a mid-week 5 day holiday sometime soon? Its been far too long since both yourself and Edinburgh was seen by the two of us and we would like very much to redress this. Doesn't matter if you can't put us up for all of it, I'm sure we'll find somewhere else to stay, but if you could loan us a room/sofa/floor that would be wonderful. :-)
The Calling was strange last night, I drank far too much, and had a hangover all day today (not headache, but whole-body jobbie...) I guess its only to be expected. Don't know where the energy to dance like that came from, but really glad I seem to have more now than I've been having the past 6 months or so. I blame the swimming - I'm up to 50 lengths now... Anyway, it wasn't quite the same as that awful FEAR I get every time I think I see Les in the street (this actually happen quite often, since I really have no real idea what he looks like any more...) Oh, and if you have anything to say about/to me, say it to _me_ please.
Anyway, I'll insert my plea here. As mentioned on Grahamb's LJ, The Calling may well have a smoke machine sometime soon. I'm sure I'm not the only person who won't welcome this one iota - what with the effect it has on my vocal cords - so please let Scy11a/Grahamb know what you all think about it (I'd like to know too...!) Am I really the only person who'd find it hard to keep coming to a club with a smoke machine? (cf, this is why you never see me at The Slimelight anymore...)
Right, enough is enough, to bed!
